Who this is for

Three kinds of client walk through our door

Business owner reviewing financial documents in an office
01

The business owner drawing a salary and a dividend and not sure which is smarter

You run a company, you're the biggest line item on your own payroll, and nobody has sat down with you and SARS's rules at the same time. We will.

Professional reviewing retirement fund documents
02

The professional whose retirement savings are scattered across three employers

A preservation fund here, a retirement annuity there, and no idea what it adds up to at 65. We consolidate the picture before we touch a single rand of it.

Family meeting with a financial advisor
03

The family managing an inheritance, a trust, or an ageing parent's estate

Money that arrived with obligations attached — beneficiaries, executors, tax deadlines. We handle the structure so the family doesn't have to argue about it.

How the work happens

One process, applied the same way every time

01

Discovery call

A 45-minute conversation, in person or by video, where we map your income, obligations and what 'sorted' would actually look like for you.

02

Position review

We pull together your tax, retirement and investment position into one document — often the first time it has existed in one place.

03

Written recommendation

A plain-language plan with specific actions, ranked by impact and deadline, plus the reasoning behind each one so you can question it.

04

Implementation and review

We execute what's agreed, then check in twice a year to keep the plan current as your income, the tax tables, or your life changes.

What changes after the first meeting

I'd been paying myself badly for four years without knowing it. Rivermark restructured my salary-dividend split and the saving alone covered their fee three times over in the first year.

A. Petersen
Owner, boutique architecture practice, Woodstock

They found a preservation fund I'd genuinely forgotten existed. Nobody else had asked the question that surfaced it.

N. Govender
Senior engineer, private client

Our family trust had been drifting for a decade. Rivermark rewrote the governance in six weeks and now every beneficiary actually understands their position.

Before you book

Questions we're asked most

Yes. The 45-minute discovery call and initial position review carry no charge and no obligation to continue — it's how we decide together whether we're a fit.
Both, and often the two are the same conversation — most of our business-owner clients also need personal tax and retirement advice, and we handle it as one engagement.
A fixed fee for the written plan, quoted upfront after the discovery call, with no commission-driven product sales built into the recommendation.
Yes — most ongoing reviews happen by video call. Roughly a third of our current clients are based in Johannesburg, Durban or abroad.
Every client on an ongoing mandate gets a review after the February Budget Speech to check whether last year's plan still holds.
Yes — Johan's background is on the SARS side of the table, and dispute resolution is a standing part of our tax practice.
Nothing is required upfront. If you have recent payslips, a fund statement or a trust deed on hand, it speeds up the position review, but we'll tell you exactly what we need after the call.
Every engagement is covered by a signed confidentiality agreement and we hold FSCA-licensed status as a financial services provider.
What you leave the first session with

Not a sales pitch — a written position

01
A one-page summary of your current financial position. Income, tax exposure, retirement provision and any trust or estate obligations, consolidated into a single reference document.
02
Three ranked recommendations. The actions with the largest financial impact for you specifically, ordered by size of benefit and by SARS or fund deadline.
03
A plain answer on salary vs. dividend, if it applies to you. Business owners leave knowing exactly how their remuneration structure compares to the alternative, in rand terms.
04
A retirement provision gap figure. The actual shortfall — or surplus — between what you're currently saving and what your stated retirement date requires.
05
A clear next step and a quoted fee. If further work is needed, you'll know precisely what it costs and what it delivers before you commit to anything.
Why clients stay

What makes our approach different

01

We write everything down

Every recommendation arrives as a document, not a verbal suggestion — with the reasoning shown, so you or your accountant can interrogate it before anything is implemented.

02

We're not paid to sell you a product

Our fee is fixed and quoted upfront. When we recommend a fund, a structure or a trust amendment, it's because the numbers support it, not because it carries a commission.

03

We keep the client list small on purpose

Four advisors, a deliberately capped caseload, and a policy of the founder attending every first consultation — so the plan you receive was actually built for your numbers, not adapted from someone else's.

Bring us your numbers. We'll bring you a plan.

No obligation, no charge for the first consultation, and a written recommendation within a week of your position review.
